Women’s Centre of York Region offers two different types of one-on-one counselling programs to support women on their journeys of self-discovery and empowerment. Both programs are free of charge, and each program offers twelve sessions over a period of 6 months.
We are currently accepting clients to our Individual Counselling waitlist. Please contact Women’s Centre of York Region by phone, 905-853-9270 ext. 110, on Thursday mornings between 10:00am and noon to complete an over the phone intake assessment (10 minutes). On a daily basis we will continue to accept clients to the Transitional Support Counselling program. If you are in crisis and need immediate help, please contact 310-COPE.
Individual Counselling provides emotional support to women experiencing difficulties with:
- body image
- discrimination, cultural and settlement adjustment
- relationship issues
- separation and/or divorce
- stress related to poverty or un/employment
Transitional Support Counselling provides women with both emotional and practical support to ensure they are able to leave an abusive relationship safely. We assist women exposed to physical, emotional, verbal, psychological, spiritual and/or financial abuse. If you are experiencing abuse, read more here.
How to Access Our Counselling Services
To access counselling at the Women’s Centre, please call 905-853-9270 for a phone assessment. This conversation will help us to determine if our counselling programs is well suited to support you with your personal goals, or to connect you to another agency that may offer a more appropriate service.

If you are on the waitlist, please ensure that you let us know of any changes to your contact information. When your turn comes up for counselling, we will attempt to contact you up to two times over the course of a week to arrange your first appointment. If we are unable to contact you, your name will be removed from the waitlist.
As there is a high demand for our services, we expect you to keep appointments. If you cannot attend, we kindly ask you to advise us 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you do not come to a counseling session, and do not advise us in advance of your need to cancel or reschedule, your missed appointment will count as one of your 12 sessions. If you arrive late for an appointment, the appointment will end at the originally appointed time.
