On Your First Visit

You will meet with one of our counselors or program coordinators, where you will get more information on all of our programs and we will gain a better understanding of how we can help as we listen to your story. You will be asked to complete some paperwork so we have a complete picture of your needs and how bes to support you. As with everything you share with us, your information is kept in strict confidence. Your first appointment will be an hour in duration.

Appointments and Cancellations

As there is a high demand for our services and often a wait list, we expect you to keep appointments. If you cannot attend, we kindly ask you to advise us 24 hours in advance if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If you do not come to a counseling session, and do not advise us in advance of your need to cancel or reschedule, your missed appointment will count as one of your 12 sessions. If you arrive late for an appointment, the appointment will end at the originally appointed time.

Women's Centre of York Region may have to cancel a session or program at short notice. In those events of cancellation you will be informed as soon as possible.

Child Minding

Women's Centre of York Region offers free child minding to women who access our programs and services. Currently, child minding is only available during daytime sessions on certain days during the week. This service is available for children under the age of six (6). Clients need to pre-register for child minding, providing the name and age of their children, and whether they have any allergies or medical concerns. Clients need to provide all food and drinks for their children and are asked to bring them 10-15 minutes before the start of any session so the child can meet the child minder (if the first time) and get comfortable.

Accessibility

Women's Centre of York Region aims to make our space accessible and healthy for all who work and visit with us. To this end we are a scent free and nut free facility to the best of our ability. Please let us know of any other health risks you may have and we will do our best to accommodate them.

Women's Centre of York Region offers a counseling room on the first floor to provide better accessibility for clients with limited mobility. Our training, resource and child minding spaces are also located on the first floor. While Women's Centre of York Region is able to accommodate women with physical disabilities, please advise us beforehand, so we be sure we are able to meet your needs.
