First Step Program – FSP
The FSP program supports individuals with service navigation, case management, informational workshops and employment support such as volunteer experiences and digital literacy groups. The FSP provides individuals a central access point to take the first step toward their goals..
Service Navigation
System navigation is available both virtually and in person. Service navigation can be anonymous, meaning no personal information is required until you are ready to share. This service can help individuals determine what support is needed from WCYR and other community partners, provide referrals and assist in reaching out to community services. *Service navigation can be anonymous.
Drop-in service navigation support is available on Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at our office in Newmarket (#207-16775 Yonge Street, Newmarket ON)
Case Management
Case management is available to individuals who would like the staff member at WCYR to assist them hands-on by following up with individuals, following up with referrals and providing guidance for the next steps. Case management cannot be completed anonymously.
Informational Workshops
Informational workshops will be provided throughout the year. Please see the schedule below for upcoming workshop dates. Workshops can be attended anonymously.
Workshop topics that will be delivered include:
Gender-based violence workshops
Introductory life skills and women's wellness workshops
Employment readiness workshops
Employment Support
Volunteer opportunities to build transferable workplace skills
Volunteer placement opportunities are currently available in partnership with Abuse Hurts. Individuals can volunteer within Abuse Hurt's storefront to gain work experience, enhance soft skills, and build professional networks. Volunteer opportunities in other fields will soon be available. This service cannot be anonymous. Registration is required with the FSP staff.
Digital Skills Literacy Program
A one-week digital literacy program Point, Click, Connect, presented by Job Skills, will be held twice yearly. Pre-registration is required with the FSP staff.
In this program, individuals will learn the following skills:
Computer Basics, Introduction to Windows
Basic Communication on Email and Social Media
Internet: Searching, Sharing, Google Drive
Internet Safety: Privacy and Security, Online Shopping
Networking and Job Searching Online
Microsoft Word and Excel
The Digital Skills Literacy Program eligibility requirements:

Over 18 years of age
Indigenous, low-income, seniors, persons with disabilities, and newcomers
